History · Berwang & Rinnen
In the 12th century, the Lords of Starkenberg established the first Schwaighöfe, and in 1266, Meinhard II of Tyrol acquired the area. Between 1865 and 1930, many residents of Berwang emigrated due to hardship, some even to America. The first ski course took place in 1914, followed by the opening of the first ski lift in 1949. The district of Rinnen in the Rotlechtal was first documented in 1485.
Origin of the Name: It is derived from "ber" (bear) and "wang" (meadow slope) – hence the black bear in the coat of arms.

History · Namlos
This secluded high valley was first documented in 1286. In the 16th century, woodcutters from Augsburg cleared large forest areas here and floated the timber downstream on the Lech River. In 1930, Namlos was at the epicenter of an earthquake that caused 31 of the 47 chimneys to collapse.
Origin of the Name: Likely named after a settler named Amel: "in Amles" transformed into "i Namles" – and eventually Namlos.
