"Relax – forget the everyday..." – this is Ehrwald's vacation motto.
History · Ehrwald
From a village of timber merchants to a Zugspitze destination
1274first mention
994 melevation
around 2,600inhabitants
Ehrwald is first documented in 1274. Unlike most places in the Außerfern region, the first settlers arrived not from the Allgäu, but over the Fern Pass from the Imst area. For centuries, the locals sustained themselves through mining and timber trade for the saltworks in Hall. With the arrival of the first summer visitors and the opening of the Tyrolean Zugspitzbahn in 1926, the village transformed into a vacation spot for both summer and winter.
The origin of the name: Its exact origin is not entirely clear: it is interpreted as "beginning of the forest," "old forest," or, due to the presence of ore deposits, as "ore forest."
An extensive range of slopes and diverse winter activities – fun for the whole family.
Alpine skiing
Slopes for all skill levels around the Ehrwalder Alm – snow-sure up to nearly 3,000 m on the Zugspitze.
Cross-country ski tracks
Well-groomed tracks, including the snow-covered golf course loop (3.8 km, of which approximately 2.7 km is snow-covered).
Winter hiking
Many cleared hiking trails ensure relaxation even in winter.
Tobogganing
Toboggan evenings on the Ehrwalder Alm bring joy for young and old.
Ice skating & curling
Ice rink with public skating, curling, and exciting ice hockey games.
Indoor tennis & climbing
Experience tennis in the most beautiful hall in Tyrol. On the specialized surface "Bross Slide," you can play gently on your joints and muscles, just like on the best clay courts. Reservations can be made at 05673 21193 – racket and ball rental available.
The Ehrwald tennis hall also features a climbing gym with bouldering area.
