History · Bichlbach, Lähn & Wengle
Bichlbach was settled from the Allgäu region and was first mentioned in 1300 – the same year gold panning began in the stream. In 1552, Emperor Charles V stayed overnight in the village during his flight. When lead mining came to an end, many Bichlbach residents moved to Swabia as masons, plasterers, and carpenters; in 1694, they founded their own guild. The district of Lähn owes its name to an avalanche that destroyed the old hamlet of Mittewald in 1456.
The origin of the name: ‘Puechelpach’ means ‘stream surrounded by beeches’; Lähn is the dialect word for avalanche.

History · Heiterwang
Heiterwang is first mentioned in 1288. The village was located along the route from Verona to Augsburg and the salt road from Hall to Bregenz – there was a horse changing station, inns, and from 1592 a post station. The fish-rich Heiterwanger See was initially owned by the Tyrolean princes and from 1312 by the Stams Abbey; Emperor Maximilian I particularly appreciated it.
The origin of the name: It derives from ‘Ayterwanch’ – a nettle meadow.
