A house with history
Between 1911 and 1920, Marion's great-grandfather was mayor of Ehrwald. At that time the mayor's office, the so-called “Gemeindestube”, was housed in this building. When Marion's grandfather inherited the house, he and her grandmother converted three guest rooms on the first floor – back then most guests came from Bavaria.
Among them was often the famous Munich comedian Liesl Karlstadt, stage partner of Karl Valentin. Marion's grandfather, a farmer and hunter, took her along to the capercaillie mating display and afterwards celebrated the experience in the cosy parlour with a hearty bacon breakfast.
A former mayor of Ehrwald knew the history of the house and came with two Munich photographers who took pictures of the – now famous – parlour. These pictures can be seen today in the Karl Valentin Museum in Munich.
The two apartments
Our apartments have of course been renovated several times and today offer cosiness and comfort in a modern setting. A connecting door turns both into one family apartment for up to 5 adults or 4 adults and 2 children – so they can be booked individually or together.

History · Ehrwald
From a village of timber merchants to a Zugspitze destination
1274first mention
994 melevation
around 2,600inhabitants
Ehrwald is first documented in 1274. Unlike most places in the Außerfern region, the first settlers arrived not from the Allgäu, but over the Fern Pass from the Imst area. For centuries, the locals sustained themselves through mining and timber trade for the saltworks in Hall. With the arrival of the first summer visitors and the opening of the Tyrolean Zugspitzbahn in 1926, the village transformed into a vacation spot for both summer and winter.
The origin of the name: Its exact origin is not entirely clear: it is interpreted as "beginning of the forest," "old forest," or, due to the presence of ore deposits, as "ore forest."
An extensive range of slopes and diverse winter activities – fun for the whole family.
